Spring is in the air and with the recent rains, there is no better time to be sinking our hands in the soil and starting our own biodiverse indigenous garden. Mphephetha Primary is already well on their ways to a fully-fledged indigenous garden but today we planted one more bed with Day Lillies, succulents, Aloe Tenuir and wild asparagus. The children then created their own signs and learnt about the cultivation requirements and medicinal properties of each plant. They also learnt about alien invasive plants like wattle, bramble and bugweed which pose a huge threat to our natural biodiversity and water supplies. Hopefully with time, these learners will go into the world with new glasses and better understanding for what must stay and be preserved and what must be eradicated. Thank you Mphephetha for always championing for a better world.
