The garden of the school of Ayent
The school of Ayent has a garden. The classes of younger
students take care of it every year. In the spring, the youngest students turn
it around and sow, and in the fall, other students do the harvest. This year,
we decided to help them. We separated our class into several groups. Some
students went to the garden on a Friday afternoon and others on a Tuesday
afternoon to accompany our younger classmates. We helped them to turn the
garden. We also emptied the compost and spread the fertilizer in the garden.
During the month of May, younger students will sow radishes,
carrots, tomatoes and in a month, we will return to cover the soil with mulch.
We will use mown grass or straw. Mulch saves water because it retains moisture
by preventing evaporation and therefore less need for watering.
