Beitrag zu Thirsty farming, Sauberes Wasser

Eco Club members visited Wadson’s Farm and had a firsthand tour guide by owner Mr. Tom Wadson who discussed the use of pesticides and fertilizers in farming. He shared that over the past 40 years since he has been farming much has changed. Mr. Wadson believes that because of the high rate of diseases such as cancer, Bermuda must grow ‘clean food’ free of pesticides and this can only come from having ‘clean land.’ His animal’s feed does not have any GMO and as a result they produce healthy manure. At Wadson’s farm they use the manure from their animals to make the land cleaner for the plants they grow. The students learned about Hydroponics which is the growing of plants without soil. Mr. Wadson is growing different types of lettuce using hydroponics. It is grown in a greenhouse and requires no pesticides. Mr. Wadson also showed the club members the drip line system he uses with his crops. This system requires very little water and as a result allows crops to grow in very dry areas. The Eco Club members learned a lot and enjoyed their tour of Wadson’s Farm.
